About our Rides

  • Big Dan: 38 Foot 2011 Tiffin Allegro. All the technical details

  • Little Ann: 2017 Subaru Crosstrek often found following Big Dan

The names of our rides were inspired by “Where the Red Fern Grows” by Wilson Rawls. The only book to make Aaron cry.

Our Mindset

To some it might seem a bit coo coo bananas, heading of into the country during this unpredictable time. Our goal from the beginning - when we just thought we were going to California for a couple of months, to when we turned that lit bit of crazy into a lot of crazy and jumped into living in an RV - was to keep our family sane and safe. My goal has been to keep Aaron and my children out of harms way to the best of my ability. To have this world-wide trauma not completely traumatize my children anymore than it has to. Being confined inside in our small Brooklyn apartment, the children constantly being reminded of how their new lives were lacking all their favorite things, wasn’t working. We have discussed living in an RV for a period of time for years, we just couldn’t figure out how to make this work with our employment. Expectations have changed.

We decided to take control of our family’s mental health and provide a rich opportunity for our children during this period of isolation - basically make them focus on all the new experiences (all outside for the time being - basically hiking through the country, even if hikes are limited to those smaller legs can handle), not focus on how they are isolated from their friends. Everyday we make the same decisions about community interaction that we would have made at home - once a week grocery shopping, hand sanitizer everywhere, only going out for necessities, and of course donning our masks. From our warp speed cross-country drive (stopping only to pee) to our decision to get an RV that we can live in with minimal community interaction (washer and dryer included), every decision along the way, we believe, has been made with care and concerns for the health of ourselves and the communities we are living in.
